Carbon Limits has conducted consultancy assignments in the country since 2007 with the focus on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and energy waste reductions from the oil and gas sector activities.

The work has encompassed collaboration and dialogue with companies and public sector institutions. Since 2016 there has been a close cooperation with SOCAR, including field work to detect emission sources and identify emission reduction opportunities. In 2019 work on a pilot methane leak and detection and repair (LDAR) project was started. In 2021 ICA-Finance, in close cooperation with SOCAR and its daughter company Azneft, successfully issued and sold carbon credits from the project.

New methane emission reduction projects are currently under review for near term implementation.
